Expo to Partner with AMAS Asia to Promote Shooot Awards
The Machinima Expo is now proud partners with The Association of Machinima Arts and Sciences (AMAS) Asia in promoting Machinima around the world. AMAS Asia is primarily concerned with promoting Machinima creation and eduction in such countries as Singapore, China and Japan. They are organizing the inaugural SHOOOT Awards (recognizing works produced from Machinima, Games and Metaverse) on December 4-6, 2009 at the scape Youth Center & Park (Lab) in Singapore. In addition to an open International Category for Machinima submission, they are also hosting a very cool Shooot Academy with the goal of providing participants with the essential skills they need in virtual worlds and in games. They have a very interesting Machinima module which will teach a participant everything they need to know about Machinima filming.
In addition to co-promoting each others Festivals, the Shoot Fiesta has made a special offer for all Machinima filmmakers: if you have submitted a film to the Expo, you can submit to the Shooot Fiesta International Category for free as they will waive their normal $50 fee. The Grand Prize this year is a fully sponsored free trip to Siggraph Asia 2009 (in Yokohama, Japan) on December 16-19th. There are also some very nice sub-prizes. You can find out more about how to enter the Shooot Fest here or by clicking the image below. Remember, if you want to have the submission fee waived you must indicate “Machinima Expo” when you submit your film to awards@shooot.com. And be sure to read the requirements for submission. Deadline for submitting your film is OCTOBER 25, 2009

Congratulations Expo folks! This is a great duo. Singapore is a booming area for new media and digital creativity. I have spoken at the ITE school there and presented seminars on animation with Reallusion tools. Their dedication to this movement is solid. I look forward to the SHOOOT event and to more awesomeness from the EXPO!
Thanks, John! We are very happy to be working with them. The fee waiver is really a great gesture of support on their part. I hope Expo filmmakers will submit to Shooot. The exposure will be very high (not to mention a nice prize if you win). And I’ve been hearing a lot about Singapore as a center for ITE. I you end up attending, send us some Pix!
I’m so impressed at what you guys are doing with the expo this year! I’d never heard of AMAS asia and at first thought it was a startling move towards globalisation by the Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences. Is there a connection between the two?
Appreciate your support, Kate. I don’t fully understand the connection, but I believe AMAS authorized them to be an extension of the organization in Asia. Since the western branch of AMAS is limping along (no NY festival this year), once I found the Asia branch, I realized they are very healthy indeed. Wanted to reach out to them and they responded enthusiastically. If you have the time, check out their Shooot Festival and submit. It’s a very well run organization.
