- All of this is far easier to track if you have a food scale (<– I’ve used this scale for 6 years. It won’t die!) . I use mine every single day, and for a variety of things.
- For foods that don’t come with a label (i.e., fruits, vegetables, meat, etc) you will need to use a food scale to find out the portion size and then look up nutritional info online and do your additions. Measuring all your food using a scale may sound pretty obsessive, but you’d be surprised how many extra calories come from overfilling measuring cups and spoons each day.
- I use a food scale to weigh everything I eat and log it in MFP. I only really care about the calories though as I know I get enough protein/fat. Every now and then I'll glance at the actual macros and see where I am at, but with practice you eventually will get a good idea of about how much you are eating.
- First purchase a food scale so you can weigh your food in grams. It’s really the only purchase you have to make, and it is required. Yes, you can scoop out ? cup of oatmeal but sometimes that ? scoop will be 35g and sometimes it may be 60g and that makes a big difference when you are tracking your macros.
